At the same time, the U.S. Treasury Department said it was “imposing sanctions on more than a dozen entities, individuals and vessels that played a central role in facilitating and financing the covert sale of Iranian unmanned aerial vehicles.”
“The Iranian regime's dangerous attack on Israel risked thousands of civilian casualties and a wider escalation in the region,” British Foreign Secretary David Cameron said in a statement accompanying the announcement. “The UK and our partners have sent a clear message today – we will hold those responsible for Iran's destabilizing behavior to account.”
The UK and US last week imposed sanctions on Iran, again mostly related to Iran's drone production. The sanctions do not target Iran's lucrative oil industry.
The British government said on Thursday it also plans to expand trade sanctions against Iran, banning the export of components used in the production of drones and missiles.
