The American far-right outlet Gateway Pundit has declared bankruptcy

The website is filing for bankruptcy amid several defamation lawsuits related to the 2020 presidential election.

Gateway Pundit, the far-right website known for promoting a conspiracy theory that the 2020 US presidential election was rigged, has filed for bankruptcy as it battles a series of defamation lawsuits.

Jim Hoft, the outlet's founder, said in a statement Wednesday that parent company TGP Communications filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection “as a result of progressive liberal court attacks against our medium.”

“This is not an admission of guilt or blame. This is a common tool for reorganizing and consolidating lawsuits when attacks come from all sides. It allows TGP to consolidate this law in one court for final resolution,” Hoft said in a statement to Gateway Pundit.

“Despite the efforts of the radical left to silence The Gateway Pundit through censorship, deplatforming, debanking, cutting off advertisers and other financial strategies, we will not be deterred from our mission to remain fearless and be one of the best. trusted independent media in America today. We don't expect that to change.”

Gateway Pundit has been sued by several parties for promoting false and defamatory claims, including two poll workers in Georgia and a former employee of a voting machine company accused of helping to rig the 2020 election in favor of President Joe Biden.

Launched in 2004, Gateway Pundit has become one of the most influential news sources in conservative and far-right circles, at one point ranking among the top 50 English-language news sites worldwide.

In addition to denying the outcome of the 2020 election, the website has promoted a number of falsehoods over the years, including misidentifying the perpetrator of the 2017 Las Vegas shooting and claiming that former President Barack Obama was not born in the United States.

In 2021, Google cut off online advertising revenue for Gateway Pundit due to “persistent violations” of its disinformation policy.
