An elderly man who ran a general store was shot dead in North Nazimabad on Thursday morning. The man was running a shop in the premises of his house in North Nazimabad's Dir Colony under Shahrah-e-Noor Jahan Police Station.
After the incident, police and paramedics transported the injured to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where the deceased was identified as 60-year-old Ghulam Muhammad, son of Sher Muhammad.
Initially, police claimed the victim was killed over a family dispute; however, after initial investigation, they said he was shot and killed by drug dealer Tati Khan, with whom he had recently fallen out over some matter. According to police, the deceased man was a senior citizen who had barred drug dealers from operating near his shop a few days ago, following which heated arguments ensued.
Police said they are waiting for the victim's family members to register a case. Meanwhile, the heirs of Ghulam Muhammad rejected the police claim that he was killed by a drug dealer and said that he could have been killed in a robbery bid.
The deceased man had been running his shop for the past 20 years, the family said, adding that the shop was usually opened after Fajr prayers.
According to the family, the unknown assailant fired in response to an attempted robbery, which was fatal. After the shooting, the assailant fled the scene and Ghulam Muhammad was taken to the hospital, but by the time he reached there, he had already died.
