KMC initiates city-wide anti-encroachment campaign

The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has launched an anti-encroachment campaign in all neighborhoods of the city.

KMC inspectors are deployed in each city as city administration and KMC will jointly conduct anti-encroachment operations. Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab met in this regard on Friday and proposed a comprehensive strategy as per court orders to remove the encroachments.

This operation is not intended to put citizens out of work, but a proposal is being considered to allocate space for hawkers in each neighborhood to move carts and kiosks there.

Commissioner Karachi Syed Hasan Naqvi, KMC Municipal Commissioner Afzal Zaidi and all deputy commissioners of the city attended the meeting where the mayor said that all encroachments will be removed from MA Jinnah Road, Saddar, Regal Market, Mobile Market, New MA Jinnah Road. , Bohri Bazaar and other areas of District South.

All deputy commissioners reported in detail about the interventions in their area. The Deputy District Central Commissioner said that in his ward, there were many hits around Hyderi Food Street in North Nazimabad Block H, Landikotal Chowrangi, Sindhi Hotel, Hussainabad Food Street, Allahwala Chowrangi North Karachi, Liaquatabad Number 10 and Supermarket.

According to him, in addition to removing obstacles, plans would be drawn up after consultation with the traffic police to ensure smooth traffic on these roads.

Deputy Commissioner of District South said that there were problems due to encroachments around MA Jinnah Road, Saddar, Regal Market, Cooperative Market, Bohri Bazaar and Lea Market, while traffic flow was affected by vehicle parking on New MA Jinnah Road. .

The Deputy Commissioner of West District said that there were problems in his district due to encroachments under the Banaras flyover. He added that there were encroachments around Orangi City No. 10 and Qatar Hospital that had to be removed.

Deputy Commissioner of Keamari district identified Sher Shah, Manghopir Road and other places where encroachment was a major problem. He said that instead of planting trees outside the factories in the SITE area, the factories have earmarked these spaces for vehicle parking.

He said efforts would be made to make these spaces green. The meeting was also informed about the encroachment on Tariq Road, Samama Mall, Pehelwan Goth and other areas of District East.

The Commissioner in Karachi said that a proposal to introduce Section 144 against blocking roads without permission is under consideration and will be implemented soon. A common strategy would be adopted to remove encroachment on the city and no encroachment on Sharea Faisal would be tolerated, he added.

The commissioner also drew attention to illegally parked rickshaws on the road between Lasbela Chowk and Gurumandir due to which the flow of traffic was affected. “The association concerned should be approached to resolve the issue,” he said.
