The council tasked with choosing Haiti's new prime minister and cabinet was sworn in on Thursday (April 25th).
The swearing-in ceremony of the transitional council was not held at the National Palace in the capital for fear of gangs.
Armored vehicles drove past the building recently.
Every day, bullets whiz past the area, hitting buildings and people.
Caseus, a local resident, said he had never seen Haiti with such high levels of uncertainty.
“Since 1986, Haiti has faced abject insecurity,” he lamented.
The gangs control most of the territory that surrounds the palace.
The Ouest department, where Port-au-Prince is located, is under a state of emergency until May 3.
Former Prime Minister Ariel Henry officially resigned from his government on Thursday from Los Angeles.
