In a key development, Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has been appointed as the Deputy Prime Minister of Pakistan, the Foreign Office announced on Sunday.
This was announced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a post on X.
The leader of the Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) currently serves as the Foreign Minister.
He had previously served as finance czar in previous PML-N governments.
Later, the cabinet department also issued an announcement about Dar’s appointment as deputy prime minister.
“The Prime Minister is pleased to appoint Mr. Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Federal Minister for External Affairs, as Deputy Prime Minister with immediate effect and until further orders,” the announcement read.
Before that, Chaudhry Parvez Elahi, the then leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Q, served as the country’s deputy prime minister in 2012.
