Rawalpindi: Provincial Minister for Transport and Mass Transport Punjab Bilal Akbar Khan attended the inaugural ceremony of Chief Minister Youth E-Bike Scheme held at Rawalpindi Medical University Rawalpindi on Thursday.
Punjab Transport Minister Ahmad Javed Qazi, National Assembly Member Tahira Aurangzeb, Rawalpindi Deputy Commissioner Hasan Waqar Cheema, Rawalpindi Medical University Vice Chancellor Dr. Muhammad Umar and several other senior government officials. Provincial Transport Minister Bilal Akbar Khan said during his speech that Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz wants to make students independent when it comes to horse riding. In the first phase, 1,000 motorcycles will be distributed in five cities including Rawalpindi, he said.
He also said that pollution is a big problem in Punjab, this project will reduce the pollution. Twenty thousand bikes will be given to students in two phases. Female students will also benefit equally from this project, assured Bilal Akbar Khan. He said that students of both state and private colleges and universities will be able to apply. Students applying for motorcycles must have a driver's license. Students who will have a study license can also apply, he said.
The provincial minister said that the e-bike will travel 100 kilometers on a single charge. Under this scheme, 30 percent of the amount will be paid by the Punjab government and there is no interest on it, he assured. A student from any province studying in Punjab is also eligible for the scheme, he said.
