Islamabad: The Child Protection Institute (CPI), the Ministry of Human Rights, has handled 260 child protection cases since its opening in June 2021, according to data released by the CPI. Of the total number, there were 243 boys and 17 girls. Of the total number of cases, there were 125 cases of begging, 56 cases of child labour, 30 cases of garbage collection, 15 cases of drug abuse, 9 cases of sexual abuse and 20 cases of neglect.
The Child Protection Institute was established under the Child Protection Act 2018 and was inaugurated on 10 June 2021. The Institute focuses on ensuring the safety, well-being and rights of children in need. With a team of experienced professionals, the institute provides a range of services such as shelter, rehabilitation, counseling and family reunification, etc. aimed at protecting and supporting children in difficult situations.
First inaugurated in Hummak and later transferred to H-9, the institute was recently moved to the central location of G-6. Located in the heart of the city, the new facility is now fully operational and offers a centralized location with essential services such as hospitals and police stations within a 2 kilometer radius as per international standards.
