In a progressive move, Lahore under Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has embarked on a digital revolution. The city is set to become a Wi-Fi hotspot with the launch of free internet services at 50 locations as part of a pilot project.
The initiative, which was announced by CM Maryam through a social media post, is a testament to the government's determination to bridge the digital divide. “We promise, we deliver,” she confirmed, hinting that the rest of Lahore would soon follow.

The Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) has mandated the task of revamping the existing infrastructure, including hotspots. The move is expected to improve internet availability in key areas, thereby boosting connectivity and streamlining communication channels.
Enlightened by CM Maryam during a high-level meeting with PITB officials last month, the project prioritizes educational institutions, airports, railway stations and bus stands for rolling out the service. In total, free WiFi services will be extended to 516 locations across Lahore.
The service, which was previously managed by Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL), is now under the supervision of PITB. The transition was expected to bring significant benefits to the public and usher in a new era of digital empowerment in Lahore.
