Drought-stricken Morocco is hosting an international agricultural fair (SIAM) this week in the city of Meknes, which focuses on climate resilience and sustainability.
About 70 countries and 1,500 exhibitions participated in the 16th edition of the fair, with an expected attendance of about 800,000 visitors.
More than 10 large tents exhibited various agricultural products and services, including vegetables, fruits, fertilizers, irrigation mechanisms, from different regions of Morocco and abroad.
The exhibition provides a valuable opportunity for participants to talk, exchange ideas and experiences, as well as to search for new markets.
The event in Morocco coincides with the country reeling from the adverse impact of drought on its agricultural sector.
This led the Ministry of Agriculture to adopt a set of measures to address the water shortage, including the creation of new seawater desalination facilities.
The International Agricultural Exhibition of Morocco (SIAM) is organized by the Moroccan Ministry of Agriculture and is described as the largest agricultural event in Africa.
This year it welcomed Spain as a special guest of honor.
The show runs from April 22 to 28.
