LAHORE: The Punjab Police is actively pursuing a crackdown across the province to eradicate the drug menace under the 'Drug Free Punjab' campaign.
A Punjab Police spokesperson said that in the last 24 hours, 300 raids were conducted on hideouts of drug dealers in the province including Lahore and 128 accused were arrested while 125 cases were registered against the accused involved in the heinous crime.
55 kg of charas, 1 kg of heroin, 675 grams of ice and 1,251 liters of liquor were recovered from the accused. Similarly, during the special campaign since February 26, 17,551 raids were conducted on hideouts of drug suspects across the province, 8,759 accused were arrested and 8,267 cases were registered against drug dealers. The accused managed to secure 5,552 kg of charas, 99 kg of heroin, 216 kg of opium, 28 kg of ice and 109,434 liters of alcohol.
IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar ordered to make the crackdown more effective to keep the young generation safe from drugs. He said intelligence-based targeted operations should be conducted on a daily basis in drug hotspot areas. The IG Punjab tasked the superintendent with the task of nabbing all the accused involved in the drug network and supply chain and bringing them to justice. The IG Punjab said a more active strategy, drug awareness campaign in collaboration with civil society, teachers and parents should be pursued.
