Today, the evening of July 26, the opening ceremony of the biggest four-year sports festival – the Olympics-2024 – will be held in Paris. 10,500 athletes from 206 countries will participate in the competition until August 11. For the first time, the opening ceremony will not take place in the stadium, but on the river Seine. Uzbekistan’s delegation, which is participating with the largest number of athletes in its history, includes 4 Olympic champions.
For the first time, the opening ceremony will be held on the river instead of the stadium
For the first time in the 128-year history of the competition, the opening ceremony of this year’s Olympics will not take place in the stadium, but outside it, more precisely on the river Seine, which flows through the center of Paris. The big event, which will start at 22:30 Tashkent time, is expected to be broadcast in almost all countries of the world. The flag bearers of the Uzbekistan delegation will be our boxer Abdumalik Khalokov and fencer Zaynab Dayibekova. As in Tokyo, the government promised the winners of the tournament 200,000 US dollars for the gold medal, 100,000 for the silver and 50,000 for the bronze winner. Athletes will participate in the tournament in uniforms under the 7Saber brand.
With this tournament, the French capital will become the second city after London to host the Summer Olympics for the third time.
Another notable aspect is that Paris 2024, which runs from July 26 to August 11, will be the first Olympics to be held on the basis of gender equality. That’s because half of the 10,500 athletes are women. Interestingly, iron pieces left over from the construction of the Eiffel Tower were used in the preparation of the medals awarded to the winners of the Paris Olympics.
Record number of athletes – Uzbekistan will participate for the first time with 90 athletes
Paris-2024 – the delegation of Uzbekistan will participate in the eighth Summer Olympic Games as an independent country. The delegation of Uzbekistan broke its license record and for the first time received 75 tickets in 19 sports with 90 athletes. Before that, the record was set at the 1996 Olympics, when 71 athletes from Uzbekistan took part in the Atlanta Games.
In the Uzbek team, four Olympic champions will participate in the tournaments in France, and Ulugbek Rashitov, Akbar Jorajev, Bahadir Jalolov and Hasanboy Dosmatov will compete for the title of two-time Olympic champion.
