The most successful for Tajikistan athletes was the Moscow Olympics-80, where they won two gold medals (Anatolij Starostin, modern pentathlon, in individual and team competitions) and one bronze medal (Yurij Lobanov, double canoe, 1000 m).
At the Olympic Games in Barcelona (Spain, 1992), 4 representatives of Tajikistan performed as part of the unified Olympic team of the CIS countries. As an independent nation, Tajikistan first competed at the 1996 Summer Olympics and has participated in every Summer Games since then. At the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, the Tajikistan team won its first Olympic medals – one bronze and one silver.

In London 2012, the team managed to win one bronze medal – its owner was the female boxing representative Mavzuna Chorieva.
Before the 2012 Olympics, experts unanimously claimed that the Tajik team in London would make a qualitative leap to the top, given the success in Beijing and the number of athletes who competed at the Games.

However, in reality, it turned out that many of them quit the fight in the early stages of the competition. As a result, there is only one medal in women’s boxing.
The Olympic qualification cycle before the 2016 Games turned out to be unsuccessful for Tajikistan. There were only seven athletes on the Rio 2016 Olympic team. Boxer Anvar Yunusov, hammer thrower Dilshod Nazarov, judoka Komronshohi Ustopirien and Muhammadmurod Abdurakhmonov qualified for the Olympics.
In addition, Tajikistan was allocated quotas for swimming and athletics. Swimming was represented by Anastasia Tyurina and Olim Kurbonov, and athletics by Kristina Pronzhenko.
The National Olympic Committee of Tajikistan expected Tajik athletes to receive 10-12 tickets for the 2016 Games. As a result, the licensing cycle failed. The rap for all was taken by the track and field athlete Dilshod Nazarov, who won the gold.

The qualification for the 2020 Games turned out to be a little more successful – ten athletes went to the Olympics in Tokyo – three below the quota.
At the 2020 Games, all ten Tajik athletes – Bakhodur Usmonov, Shabbos Negmatulloev, Siyovush Zuhurov (boxing), Somon Makhmadbekov, Akmal Murodov, Komronshokhi Ustopiriyon, Temur Rakhimov (judo), Ildar Akhmadiev (Tyurwijm athletics), Ildar Akhmadiev (Tyurlijm athletics ) ) ) failed to get medals. Nevertheless, Tajikistan “registered” in the overall team final table – we were the only one of all the teams of the countries of the former USSR who did not win an award at the Olympics in Japan.
Fourteen athletes from Tajikistan will go to the 2024 Games – eleven of them won the license themselves. We will find out soon whether we will have medals this time.
