A number of Russian banks, payment systems, communication operators, social networks and messengers were attacked.
Major Russian banks, mobile operators, but also a number of other services, including social networks and messengers, were hit by a cyber attack organized by the General Directorate of Intelligence (GRU) of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. About Mass he wrote, citing an intelligence source.
According to the source, the “operation” started 3 days ago and is still ongoing. A number of Russian financial institutions, including Alfa Bank, SberBank, Raiffeisen Bank, VTB, Gazprombank and T-Bank, were hacked.
On the morning of July 24, Russian mass media focused on disruptions in the work of banks. The press service of VTB informed “Interfax” that the bank was hit by a DDoS attack from abroad.
According to Hromadsky’s source, Sistema bystryx platejyey (SBP) and Natsionalnaya sistema platejnyx kart (NSPK) were also cyberattacked as part of the operation. A source from the General Directorate of the Ukrainska Pravda intelligence service previously claimed that Ukrainian experts had managed to “block or disable” the operation of Russian payment systems.
In addition, several communication operators, including “Beeline”, “Megafon”, “Ms”, “Tele2”, as well as various services, including the VKontakte social network and the Discord messenger, were exposed to cyber attacks.
The General Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine regularly informs about cyber attacks. For example, in mid-July 2024, the intelligence service reported that about a hundred Russian websites had been hacked. The General Directorate of Intelligence previously announced that cyber specialists of military intelligence attacked the news portal “Kerch FM”, the communication operator “Miranda Media”, as well as the system of registration and control of traffic on the Crimean bridge.
