The former president accused Democrats of putting serious pressure on Biden.
US presidential candidate Donald Trump said on July 25 that top Democratic Party officials have made a tough effort to force President Joe Biden to abandon his re-election bid. About Interfax he wrote
“I think it was some sort of coup d’état. They did not want his candidacy. His poll results were bad, they thought he would lose. They came to him and said, ‘You can’t win these races,'” Trump said on Fox News.
He noted that many Democrats have assured Biden that they will be fine, according to his sources. “But I know they were tough on him behind the scenes,” Trump said.
“I know a lot of people on the other side (of the Democrats). And I know: they forced him out of the race. “It’s about Pelosi (former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi), Obama (former US President Barack Obama) and other people you see on TV,” he added.
On July 21, Biden announced that he was withdrawing from the presidential race but would continue to serve as president, and called on the Democratic Party to nominate Kamala Harris as its presidential candidate.
The Democratic National Committee plans to nominate a presidential candidate by August 7.
The US presidential election is scheduled for November 5, 2024.
