According to the decision of the Technology and Communications Council of Turkey, access to the Instagram social network was blocked on the morning of August 2.
On August 16, the Digital Media Committee of the Turkish Parliament will discuss the situation related to the blocking of the social network Instagram and the possible ban of TikTok in the country.
According to the decision of the Technology and Communications Council of Turkey, access to the Instagram social network was blocked on the morning of August 2. According to the Turkish government, this decision was made because the social network violated local laws. According to local media, the reason for Ankara’s behavior was that Instagram blocked condolences for the killing of Hamas leader Isail Haniya. Negotiations with Instagram representatives continue daily, but are currently fruitless.
According to Turkish Transport and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, the country’s government has no plans to block the social network TikTok.
“There is no question of shutting down TikTok, in general we do not intend to ban anything. We want foreign social networks to implement the requirements of our legislation,” said the minister.
We remind you that on August 7, Turkey also blocked access to the online platform Roblox based on a court order. According to the country’s Justice Minister Yilmaz Tunç, access to the resource was closed due to the presence of content related to violence against children.
