KABUL (Afghanistan): After a dam collapse in Sudan, many people lost their lives and many others are missing, according to a media report.
At least 60 people have died after a dam burst due to rain in the war-torn country, where rescuers are carrying out search operations to find missing people.
The BBC reported that the death toll could be even higher after the collapse of the 25 million cubic meter Arbat Dam.
For the residents of Port Sudan, the dam is a key source of drinking water. Heavy rains and flooding have killed dozens of people and displaced tens of thousands.
A dam breach swept away farms and villages, torrential rains damaged a fiber optic cable and cut off communications in many parts of the country.
According to local newspaper Merdameek, the air force was trying to rescue people trapped in the mountains where they were seeking refuge.
Since April, the Rapid Support Force (RSF) paramilitary group and the Sudanese army have joined the fighting.
Heavy rain and flooding have affected about 317,000 people in 16 states in Sudan since June, according to an OCHA report.
