Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with a delegation of the National People’s Congress of China led by Standing Committee Chairman Zhao Leji on July 8, the president’s press service reported.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Zhao Leji noted the “highest level between Uzbek-Chinese relations of friendship and all-weather all-round strategic partnership” reached in recent years.

The head of the Chinese parliament reaffirmed China’s support for Uzbekistan’s socio-economic reform program, especially in the area of ​​poverty reduction, and plans for strategic cooperation in infrastructure development, industrial cooperation, agriculture and green energy.

The parties emphasized the importance of starting the construction of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway as soon as possible.

It also involved the establishment of branches of Chinese universities in Uzbekistan, the expansion of cooperation in the field of vocational education, as well as cultural and tourism exchange.

“In particular, they drew attention to the need to further expand inter-parliamentary cooperation, intensify exchanges between MPs and share experience in drafting laws to support ongoing reforms,” ​​the statement said.

Zhao Leji also met with the Speaker of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis (Parliament) of Uzbekistan, Tanzila Narbaeva. It involved the expansion of ties between parliamentary committees, the exchange of experience with law-making and parliamentary control. It was proposed that ties be established between kengashes (local representative councils) in Uzbekistan’s regions and representatives of Chinese provinces.
