BANGKOK – Thailand has gained geopolitical attention for its bid to become a member of the BRICS as the group of emerging economies that includes China and Russia holds a summit in October, while also starting a years-long process to join the Western-dominated OECD.
Thai Foreign Minister Maris Sangiampongsa last week made his first official visit to China and India, both founding members of BRICS, before opening the Board of Investment office in Saudi Arabia, the first such base in the Middle East.
