Igor Strelkov (Girkin), who was convicted of inciting extremist activities in Russia, was sent to a colony in the Kirov region. His wife Miroslava Reginskaya informed the journalists about it.
“Igor Strelkov is in correctional colony No. 5 in Kirovo-Chepetsk,” Reginskaya said, according to TASS.
On January 25, the Moscow City Court sentenced Strelkov to 4 years in a penal colony. In connection with the war in Ukraine, criminal proceedings were initiated against him for publishing two posts on the Telegram messenger that strongly criticized the country’s military leadership. In May, the Court of Appeal upheld the sentence.
According to the TASS agency, the colony in Kirovo-Chepetsk is famous for serving the sentence of former security system employees. Strelkov served in the FSB.
Strelkov’s lawyer, Alexander Molokhov, informed “Interfax” that the defenders, who heard Strelkov in the colony, want to file an appeal against the sentence to the cassation instance of the Supreme Court and also want to get the convict released on parole.
In November 2022, a Dutch court sentenced Strelkov to life imprisonment. He and two other people were found guilty of the crash of the Boeing-777 belonging to Malaysian Airlines, which was shot down in Donbas. After that, Strelkov fought against Ukraine.
In Ukraine, criminal proceedings were initiated against him for articles of terrorism, murder, torture and interference with state sovereignty.
