Kwa-Thema – Kwa-Thema Handicapped Sports Academy received a food package donation from BEE123 software company on August 16 at the Kwa-Thema Stadium.
It all started with a raffle, where the company’s employees had to nominate an organization they thought deserved a contribution.
Staff member Mthuthuzeli Ncongo nominated a sports academy that ended up winning the raffle draw.
“The reason I nominated this nonprofit is because it’s one of those nonprofits that is well known in the community. I believe that every little bit helps. It is good to do whatever you can to move the organization forward,” Ncongo said.
The Kwa-Thema Handicap Sports Academy began operations in 2002. It has produced many athletes to professional level whose athletes have qualified for this year’s Paralympics.
“We have swimming, basketball, wheelchair basketball and table tennis to name a few. We also give our athletes access to academic opportunities such as scholarships,” said coach Thabang Mokoke.
He added that the academy will use the food packages during tournaments and training sessions.
“Some of our athletes come from disadvantaged backgrounds and need strength to train and this meal will support their nutrition,” Mokoke said.
