Islamabad: So far, more than 300 dengue patients from the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi have tested positive and the number of cases is steadily increasing, indicating a serious outbreak of the infection in the next few days.
Data collected by ‘The News’ on Tuesday revealed that the number of dengue positive patients from the region has started to see a tremendous increase as nearly 80 individuals belonged to the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi in the last four days. were confirmed positive for infection.
Data provided by the Rawalpindi District Health Office on Tuesday reveals that 18 more patients from Rawalpindi district have tested positive for dengue fever in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of confirmed cases reported from the district so far this year to 189. Dengue fever has it has already claimed one life in Rawalpindi district.
On the other hand, nearly 35 individuals have tested positive for dengue fever from the Islamabad Capital Territory, from where the total number of patients has crossed 125, though the virus has not yet claimed any life from the federal capital. According to details, nearly 90 patients tested positive for dengue fever from rural areas while 40 patients were confirmed positive from urban areas of the federal capital.
It is important to mention that more than 55 percent of positive tested patients from Islamabad reported in three allied hospitals in Rawalpindi including Holy Family Hospital, Benazir Bhutto Hospital and District Headquarters Hospital.
Health experts say the continuous increase in the number of confirmed dengue cases from the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi at that time is alarming as it is the peak season of dengue transmission in that area of the country.
