July 23, 1881 in the Belgian city of Liège The International Gymnastics Federation was founded – FIG, the oldest sports organization in the world. Only 11 years later, two more international associations were created – the Skating Union and the Rowing Federation, a year later – the International Olympic Committee (IOC), and all other athletes’ associations appeared only in the 20th century.
