The Republic imports gasoline almost exclusively from the Russian Federation.
The Russian government plans to ban the export of gasoline in September-October this year.
“In order to avoid problems during these months, the export ban will not be lifted in August. A fundamental decision was also taken for September-October that exports will be limited due to safeguards,” reports TASS, referring to First Deputy Director of the Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation Pavel Sorokin.
He noted that the adoption of such measures for the export of diesel fuel is not yet required, however, according to him, it is necessary to work on limiting the export potential of this type of fuel even in the territory of the customs union. and EAEU.
“This work will continue,” Sorokin added.
The report says the ban on gasoline exports from Russia, which was waived in July, will be reinstated today, August 1.

Let us remind you that the Russian government introduced a six-month ban on the export of gasoline from March 1 of this year. The Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, Alexander Novak, explained at the end of February that this decision was necessary to “balance the rushed demand for oil products.” According to him, this “helps to stabilize prices on the domestic market for petroleum products”.
It should be noted that the restrictions on the export of Russian oil products do not apply to Tajikistan, since the republic accepts them in accordance with the agreement between the governments of the two countries on a preferential basis.
The competent authorities of both countries will agree on the volumes of domestic consumption in Tajikistan for the next year before October 1 and sign indicative balances. The required volume for 2024, on which the parties agreed at the end of last year, is over 970 thousand tons.
According to statistics, Tajikistan imported 237.7 thousand tons of gasoline in the first half of 2024, of which 99.5% (236.6 thousand tons) was imported from Russia.
In total, the republic imported Russian fuels and lubricants in the amount of 524.2 thousand tons in six months of this year, which is 14.3% more than in the same period of 2023.
