“The parliamentary elections in Thuringia and Saxony are important for the federal states, but the real situation in Germany is different,” Defense Minister Boris Pistorius told DW. Germany will deliver 12 PzH 2000 self-propelled howitzers to Ukraine.
Germany does not intend to limit military aid to Ukraine. Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said this on Friday, September 6, during a meeting of Kiev’s allies at the Ramstein Air Base in the state of Rhineland-Palatinate in response to a question from DW.
When asked whether Ukraine should be worried about a cut in German military aid, given the impressive results of parties demanding a cut in aid in the parliamentary elections in Saxony and Thuringia, the minister replied: “You asked me a clear, simple question and my answer is also clear. : no. Or to put it another way: we’re talking about an election that matters for federal lands, and none of the Democrats are excited about it. But it is also clear that we are talking about about 10 percent of citizens. In Germany, the real situation is different and we are working to make it so.”
At the meeting in Ramstein, Boris Pistorius announced that Germany will supply Ukraine with 12 more PzH 2000 self-propelled howitzers at a cost of 150 million euros.
The United States announced a new aid package for Ukraine
The US Department of Defense has announced that it will provide another $250 million military aid package to Ukraine. It was announced on the Pentagon website on September 6.
In particular, Kiev received from Washington Stinger missiles, ammunition for HIMARS mass missile systems, 155 mm and 105 mm artillery ammunition, Javelin and AT-4 anti-tank systems, Bradley infantry fighting vehicles, M113 armored personnel carrier vehicles, patrol boats and other items.
Canada’s new military aid to Ukraine
Canadian Defense Minister Bill Blair announced at the same event that Ottawa intends to send an additional 80,840 air-to-surface missiles and 1,300 warheads to Ukraine in the coming months.
“Canada announced an initial delivery of 2,160 CRV7 missiles in June. Each CRV7 missile can be equipped with warheads designed to destroy buildings, tanks or soldiers,” reports Reuters. Ottawa is also donating 29 M113 armored vehicle chassis and 64 Coyote armored personnel carriers that are no longer in use by the Canadian Forces, Blair added.
Shols promised to provide Ukraine with new HHM systems
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz promises to provide Ukraine with new air defense systems equipped with IRIS-T missiles. Eight IRIS-T SLM systems and nine IRIS-T SLS systems have been ordered for Ukraine, Scholz said at the launch of the first IRIS-T SLM air defense system for the Bundeswehr at the Todendorf Bundeswehr base in Schleswig-Holstein on September 4. “Two of them will be delivered this year and the rest in 2025,” Reuters quoted the chancellor as saying.
Shols said the additional IRIS-T ordered for Ukraine will complement the seven already delivered, which have helped shoot down more than 250 Russian missiles, drones and missiles and saved many lives. This data is provided by Bloomberg. “This shows that Germany’s support for Ukraine is not weakening,” the chancellor told guests, including German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius.
