Ivo Lanski, Nokia’s senior director for Central and Eastern Europe, Turkey and Central Asia, visited Dushanbe to close deals with local companies and discuss Nokia’s future plans.
In an effort to strengthen its presence in Central Asia, Nokia has signed agreements with local companies NETS, a leading Internet provider, and TTL (Telecom Technology), the first Internet provider in Tajikistan.
Asia-Plus spoke with Ivo Lansky, Nokia’s senior director for Central and Eastern Europe, Turkey and Central Asia. He recently visited Dushanbe to conclude these agreements, which begin a new phase of Nokia’s collaboration with customers towards the digital transformation of the region.
Although Nokia’s mobile phones were iconic, Ivo Lanski explained that the company’s activities had long gone beyond the production of mobile devices.
Today, Nokia is a global leader in B2B technology and innovation in network solutions.
“Nokia’s digital transformation solutions and services are used not only by telecom operators, web companies, enterprises and industries, but also by governments,” says Ivo Lanski.
Nokia has existed for more than 150 years, the company is represented in 130 countries. In 2023, the company’s sales amounted to more than 22 billion euros.
In the 5G era, the company owns more than 6,000 patents for new technologies that are now being implemented in wireless networks. In addition, Nokia has won ten Nobel Prizes for innovation.
Nokia’s commitment to Central Asia
Lansky’s visit to Dushanbe underscores Nokia’s commitment to digitization in Central Asia. The agreements with NETS and TTL are aimed at modernizing the existing IP infrastructure and improving broadband Internet. This initiative also focuses on researching business opportunities in Tajikistan.
“Broadband growth is a worldwide phenomenon, with traffic increasing by around 28% each year. For us, Central Asia is an important high-performance Internet hub between Europe and Asia and represents an interesting strategic market supported by emerging economies. We believe operators such as NETS, TTL and others can benefit from Nokia’s advanced IP routing technologies to modernize their existing networks,” said Lansky.
Leadership in technological progress
Nokia is proud to use innovation and technological advancement to be a global leader in IP routing technologies and provide reliable solutions to telecom operators, ISPs, enterprises and governments around the world.
Ivo Lanski emphasized that Nokia’s innovative products and services are designed to meet the growing global demand for broadband Internet.
“Our complete portfolio of IP routing designed for mission-critical networks, as well as the FP5-based 800GE, exemplify our commitment to innovation. Our IP routing platforms can provide high-speed and reliable Internet access even in the challenging conditions of Tajikistan. Nokia’s unique ability to support both fixed Internet and 4G/5G mobile broadband on a single IP router is a breakthrough in scaling fixed wireless access (FWA) in the most cost-effective way,” explained Lansky.
Solving AI and security challenges
The impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on our society will lead to new challenges for providers in terms of capacity and security. The growing number of new AI applications and services creates continued demand for high-speed connections. Advanced Nokia routers are equipped to handle these demands effectively. The company also proactively addresses data security issues through end-to-end encryption and highly automated DDoS detection and mitigation.
“AI increases network traffic even more. Networks powered by advanced Nokia routers are designed to efficiently meet these requirements. Our next-generation DDoS security solution combines advanced IP routing elements and AI/ML models to rapidly and automatically detect and mitigate threats at scale,” said Lansky.
Plans for Tajikistan and more
Focusing on supporting IP routing business and broadband initiatives in Central Asia, Nokia plans to hold a forum for businesses and professionals in Dushanbe later this year.
The event will feature roundtables with industry professionals, telecom workshops and business meetings to further strengthen Nokia’s role in the region’s digital transformation.
“We work with partners to modernize IP networks and support the latest industry trends and security requirements. In Tajikistan, we are working with partners to improve broadband services and explore business opportunities,” added Lansky.
A promising future
Lansky’s visit to Tajikistan was not just a business one. He also took the opportunity to explore the local culture and natural beauty of the region and highlighted Nokia’s commitment to building strong relationships with local communities.
“The time I spent in Tajikistan was truly inspiring. The people I met were incredibly warm and welcoming and I immediately felt comfortable. I look forward to coming back again,” Lansky concluded.
Nokia’s commitment and technological advancements predict the future of Central Asia’s digital landscape, driving growth and innovation in the region.
