DAGGAR: Members of the Khadokhel Tehsil Council in Buner district on Sunday condemned the murder of teacher Nargis Bibi, who was serving at Jangdara Government Primary School.
The condemnation came at a council meeting which condemned the incident as a failure of law enforcement and said it was an attempt to sabotage efforts to promote education.
In a resolution passed by the council, members praised Nargis Bibi for resisting her abduction and forced marriage while saving her grandfather’s life. The council demanded that the government posthumously award her the Presidential Medal of Honor in recognition of her courageous actions. The meeting presided over by Tehsil Mayor Gulzar Hussain Babak expressed deep grief over the tragic incident and urged the Inspector General of Police to order an inquiry into the matter.
The meeting was informed that Nargis Bibi had repeatedly sought protection from the local police, district police and assistant commissioner, but no action was taken. The council recognized Nargis Bibi’s efforts in protecting her father from attackers despite being fatally shot in the process.
The Khadokhel Tehsil Council asked the federal and provincial governments to honor Nargis Bibi with a posthumous presidential award and demanded the immediate arrest of those responsible for her murder.
