KARACHI: Isolated light to moderate rains may lash parts of Karachi on Wednesday as partly cloudy and humid weather is expected to persist for the next 24 hours, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said on Wednesday.
The weather forecast department said the minimum temperature was recorded at 27°C in the morning. While the mercury could rise to 32°C to 34°C during the day, according to the forecast.
“The percentage of humidity in the air is 81% and the wind is blowing from the west at 10 kilometers per hour,” the Met Office said.
Later, Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfaraz said that the intensity of monsoon winds has reduced considerably and the chance of rain is extremely low in Karachi today.
“Several places on the outskirts of the metropolis, including the superhighway, Gadap town and surrounding areas may experience rain,” he said.
Earlier, Karachi was lashed by torrential rains for days under the influence of cyclonic storm ‘Asna’, which has now dissipated.
After the rain, cracks appeared on the roads and commuters are facing huge problems.
After several days of restrictions due to the cyclonic storm, the meteorological department had earlier allowed Sindh fishermen to resume their activities in the sea from September 1, while Balochistan fishermen were allowed to fish from September 2.
Meanwhile, heavy rain is lashing Tharparkar, Mithi, Islamkot and surrounding areas in Sindh.
The PMD said Mithi received 80 mm of rainfall in 24 hours. The ponds filled with water due to the rain, which was beneficial for the crop, he added.
The Met Office said on Tuesday that the monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea are entering the southern and eastern parts of the country.
Rain/wind/thunderstorm with isolated heavy rainfall is expected in Sindh, Northeast/South Balochistan and South Punjab on Wednesday, the ministry has predicted.
“Rain wind/thunderstorm is likely at isolated places over Northeast Punjab, Potohar region, Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan,” it said.
