Huw Edwards has been given a suspended prison sentence for accessing indecent images of children.
In July, the former BBC News presenter pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent images of childrenafter which it was revealed that he was arrested in November last year.
Edwards, who appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court in the summer, admitted possessing 41 indecent images of children.
BBC NewsThe report said at the time that these included seven of the most serious category A images, two of which depicted a child aged seven. He was also charged with possessing 12 category B images and 19 category C images.
On Monday, a judge sentenced Edwards to six months in prison, suspended for two years.
He was also placed on the sex offenders’ register, which he will have to sign for the next seven years.
The court heard that Edwards paid up to £1,500 to a convicted pedophile who sent him more than 40 illegal images between December 2020 and August 2021, Sky News reports.
Until recently, Edwards was the highest-paid member of the BBC News on-air team for consecutive years and was considered by many to be the “face” of national television.
Among his most notable on-screen moments was announcing the death of Queen Elizabeth II. nation in 2022, as well as leading the BBC’s coverage of major news events of the 21st century, including general elections, royal weddings and major sporting events.
Last year, Edwards was at the center of a separate scandal when it emerged he was accused of paying a young person to pose in sexually explicit photographs, leading to his BBC membership being suspended.
