How long ago did your child’s school do physics and chemistry experiments and do they have working computers?
In Tajikistan, there is a “Program for providing educational institutions with classrooms and laboratories, educational equipment for the period 2021-2025”. The country’s Ministry of Education has informed Asia-Plus of the extent to which it has been completed to date.
According to the plan, 3,558 classrooms and laboratories out of the planned 6,869 were provided to general education institutions within 3 years (2021-2023). This is 51.7% of the plan.

What else should be done under this program?

“Asia-Plus” decided to ask parents how realistically the schools where their children study are equipped with laboratories. The answers were divided: the majority answered that the school has the necessary classrooms and equipment, although they are mainly used by teachers.

In the same chemistry, teachers show experiments to students, but the children themselves do not touch the test tubes or reagents.
At the presidential high school for gifted children, according to one of the parents, not only teachers but also students conduct experiments when teaching exact subjects.
But this is not the case, for example, at the technical lyceum named after M. Osimi. “Computers are old, experiments are only done occasionally in chemistry, and there is nothing at all in physics,” says one of the parents.
At the TNU Science and Mathematics Lyceum, the situation is better: the classrooms are equipped, although the computers are no longer new.
And in many ordinary schools in the capital there are neither new computers nor equipment for experiments in chemistry and physics. And some places don’t even have teachers.
“As far as I know, chemistry and physics classrooms have not been equipped in school No. 66 in the upper classes for a very long time, and there are no teachers there… There are no laboratories or practice. Graduates don’t do any experiments, they don’t even know what test tubes look like.

Some schoolchildren didn’t even have lessons until the 11th grade, then they take their report card in their last year. School 32 had the same problem, I don’t think anything has changed for the better. Chemistry, physics, biology and music were always lame in state schools, that was also during my studies,” comments one of the parents.

Even officially and on paper, the Program was only half completed in 3 years: among the subject classrooms, the physics, chemistry and computer science classrooms are the most equipped.
