GHAZNI CITY (Afghanistan): Some school students in the southern province of Ghazni are complaining of a shortage of teachers and are urging the government to address the issue as a matter of priority.
The Ministry of Education acknowledges the shortage of teachers and claims that it has shared the problem with the Ministry of Education (MoE).
Abbas, a Grade 9 student from the Mohammad Amir Khan area of Ghazni city, told Afghanistan Afghan News that he is facing a shortage of teachers.
And he added: “We currently have teachers for four subjects. The remaining subjects are taught by students of higher classes.”
Noorullah, a class 11 student at Payeen Targan High School in Jaghato district, also complained that they did not have teachers for several subjects.
He grumbled that two months into the academic year had passed but they didn’t have a science teacher.
He added that they only have teachers for history, biology and Dari. He asked the concerned authorities, especially the Ministry of Education, to take measures to overcome the shortage of teachers.
Meanwhile, many residents of Ghazni have also called on the concerned authorities to urgently address the issue.
On the other hand, Ministry of Education officials also acknowledged the shortage of teachers in the province.
Director of Education Maulvi Nasir Ahmad said they have taken the issue to the attention of the relevant ministry.
The official said: “We have urged the education ministry to hire 8,000 more teachers for Ghazni. The authorities promised to appoint 3,500 teachers for seminaries and 4,500 for schools.
There are 771 schools across the province where 10,000 teachers teach 400,000 students.
