Kwatsduza – Last Wednesday, EMPD seized eight foreign cars suspected of being in the country illegally.
Officers from EMPD’s Specialized Services Congestion Unit conducted a sting operation with a strict focus on non-compliant foreign motor vehicles.
Officers in the area observed and stopped eight vehicles with foreign number plates as there is a legal requirement to operate such vehicles within SA’s borders.
Based on investigation, information from a source in Swaziland and confirmation of documents, all motor vehicle documents were found to be fraudulent and invalid.
The drivers did not comply because all the vehicles were from Swaziland.
The investigation also revealed that most of these vehicles were purchased in the countries of origin but were not registered in the system.
Some owners cannot be traced. All vehicles were moved to Boksburg EMPD pounds for safekeeping.
