The Supreme Court of Tajikistan has opened an official investigation into the actions of the Chairman of the Khatlon District Court, Shamsiddin Shokhin, who is suspected of beating a member of the border guard.

Zohir Muminzoda, president of the district court in Sh., is suspected of attacking a border guard at the Darai Ob checkpoint on July 8, Radio Ozodi reports.

“The border guard demanded that Muminzod’s companion present an identification document, after which the court president punched the soldier several times,” the radio reports.

Judges are entitled to immunity, so the Supreme Court is conducting an internal review and if Muminzod is found guilty, his details will be forwarded to the president for impeachment.”

The beating of the soldier was caught on CCTV cameras. The video shows Zohir Muminzoda getting out of the car and punching the repairman several times.

The Darai Ob border crossing is located on the border with Afghanistan and is considered a kind of gateway to the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region. Anyone traveling there must present an ID.

Zohir Muminzoda was appointed chairman of the Shamsiddin Shokhin District Court in 2017.
