Gavin Newsom, the governor of California, writes that he may be nominated as the candidate for the US vice president from the Democratic Party Politics.
The newspaper reported that the party often discusses him as a possible candidate. At the same time, the team of US Vice President Kamala Harris, who was nominated to replace Joe Biden, is considering several other candidates for the position. Possible candidates include Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, Illinois Governor Jay Pritzker, Maryland Governor Westley Moore and US Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg.
56-year-old Gavin Newsom has been the governor of California since 2019. He has been mentioned several times as a possible Democratic Party presidential candidate. After Joe Biden dropped out of the presidential race and was replaced by Kamala Harris, Gavin Newsom supported the decision, saying, “No one could have done a better job with Donald Trump.”
However, Gavin Newsom and Kamala Harris both represent the state of California. According to the 12th Amendment to the US Constitution, electors cannot vote for candidates who represent one state. Otherwise, he will lose 54 electoral votes in California.
On July 21, 81-year-old Joe Biden announced that he would not run for president in November. He supported the candidacy of Kamala Harris, Vice President of the United States. Ms. Harris has vowed to do everything she can to unite the Democratic Party and defeat Donald Trump.
