DHAKA – The situation in Bangladesh remains tense despite a ruling by the Supreme Court’s Appellate Division on Sunday that cleared the way for most government jobs to go to the best applicants.
Weeks ago, student demonstrations broke out in the Bangladeshi capital demanding that the government scrap the so-called quota system and distribute civil service jobs more fairly. The demonstrations were a reaction to the Supreme Court verdict that reinstated the quotas.
