KABUL (Afghanistan): The United States, Spain, the European Union and Iran have strongly condemned the shooting attack on foreign tourists in the central province of Bamyan.
Spain’s foreign ministry said the consular emergency unit had been fully mobilized and assistance had been provided to the victims and their families.
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez wrote on X that he was “shocked by the news of the murder of Spanish tourists in Afghanistan.” There was no immediate indication why the attack took place.
American chargé d’affaires Karen Decker wrote on her X page: “I condemn the cowardly attack on innocent people in the Bamyan bazaar. Afghanistan has experienced too much violence. My deepest condolences to the families of the victims.”
US Special Representative for Afghanistan Thomas West said: “The United States is deeply saddened to hear of the shooting attack in Bamiyan that killed and injured Afghan civilians and foreign nationals. Our thoughts are with those who have lost loved ones. Violence is not the answer.”
The European Union (EU) ambassador to Afghanistan, Raffaella Iodice, also took to her X handle and strongly condemned the armed attack on foreign tourists.
She said: “We extend our condolences to the families and relatives of the victims who lost their lives and were injured in this attack.”
Nabila Massrali, spokeswoman for EU foreign and security policy, wrote: “Afghanistan: we condemn in the strongest possible terms the armed attack against a group of foreign tourists visiting Bamyan.
She also expressed her condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims who lost their lives and those injured in the shooting attack.
Nasser Kanaani, a spokesman for Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, condemned the attack on foreign tourists and ordinary citizens.
Kanaani expressed his condolences to the families of the victims of the terrorist act and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
