SYDNEY – Australian Senator David Fawcett on Monday defended a motion he recently co-sponsored that criticized China’s attempts to gain sovereignty over Taiwan.
Fawcett said the proposal aims to defend the regional status quo against the possibility of China acting unilaterally to try to overtake Taiwan by force. “If we allow someone, just because they’re economically strong or militarily strong, to go over other nations, then we’re all going to be worse off in the end,” Fawcett told Nikkei Asia.
