10:58 am, July 24th
Starting today and continuing until the end of July (July 24-31), Tajikistan is expected to experience significant heat.
According to the Republic Hydrometeorological Center (Hydromet), temperatures in valley areas in districts under the center, including Dushanbe and Sughd province, will reach a maximum of 40ºC – 43ºC.
In Khatlon province, temperatures will rise to 43ºC – 46ºC.
In the Darvoz district of the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO), the thermometer will rise to 40ºC – 42ºC degrees, while in some mountainous and foothill areas, temperatures will range from 37ºC to 40ºC.
Meteorologists note that due to the increase in air temperature, the water level in the Zarafshon, Panj and Vachsh river basins is expected to rise.
Glacial-type mud events are possible in the mountainous and high-altitude areas in the districts subordinate to the center and in the western part of the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region.
This was previously said by an official source in Hydromet Asia-Plus that July in Tajikistan will be hot, with temperatures slightly above climate norms.
It has also been reported that rainfall in most areas will be below normal, except for some mountainous areas and eastern GBAO areas where more rainfall is expected.
On some days, westerly winds are expected to increase to 15-20 m/s accompanied by dust storms and haze.
Until the beginning of this week, air temperatures in most areas did not exceed 36ºC – 38ºC.
How to cope with the heat
Most people do not feel well on hot days, especially people with chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, obesity, hypertension, etc. During heat waves, the heart and blood vessels, as well as the respiratory system, are especially stressed. It is essential to be vigilant on these days, limit outdoor activities, especially at midday, and wear light cotton clothing while drinking more water.
Recommendations for staying safe in the heat:
- Drink more pure water. Warm water is recommended because compared to cold water, it quenches thirst better and prevents throat problems.
- If possible, perform wet cleaning and try to humidify the air in the apartment using humidifiers or simply by hanging a wet sheet around the house.
- When relaxing near water bodies, strictly follow all safety rules and avoid swimming in prohibited or unregulated places.
- If you must go out in the heat, protect yourself with hats and umbrellas.
- Do water procedures more often to clean your pores and refresh your body.
Remember that the sun is most active from 12:00 to 16:00, but in extreme weather it is recommended to avoid going outside from 10:00 to 18:00. If going outside is unavoidable, protect all exposed parts of the body from the sun with closed clothing and apply sunscreen to the face, neck and hands.
